Best time to see an orthodontist

April 3, 2019

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic consultation by age 7.

At this age, most children have a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, and the growth pattern of the upper and lower jaw can be determined. At MacKenzie Orthodontics, all consultations are free. Dr. MacKenzie will examine your child and will recommend photos or x-rays to look at the eruption of the adult teeth. She will also look for issues with the bite such as a severe overbite, an underbite or a crossbite.
It is very rare for Dr. MacKenzie to recommend treatment at age 7. She will give you and your child advice for the ideal time to begin orthodontic treatment. Sometimes, correcting a severe problem early is beneficial, because it prevents future orthodontic issues and can save you time and money in the future.

Dr. MacKenzie will take into consideration not only the teeth, bite, and jaw growth of your child, but also your family routine, and will recommend the best time that fits your family. We believe that every family should be given options for treatment, such as braces or Invisalign.

Most children are followed up annually until they are ready for treatment. These visits are complimentary as well.
