Clear aligners, such as Invisalign or Angel Aligner, offer the following advantages:
- Easier to brush and floss around than brackets
- No food restrictions, because the aligners are removable
- Greater comfort against the lips, cheeks, and tongue
- Generally faster treatment than braces
- Fewer in-office visits
- Nearly invisible
- Require discipline: aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours a day to stay on schedule, so they work best for patients who can commit to that routine
Braces may be the better option if:
- You prefer a treatment that does not need to be removed and replaced each day
- You would like to personalize your treatment with colored bands
- Your treatment plan includes jaw surgery that requires brackets and wires
- Your case involves significant misalignment, where braces provide the greatest control over complex tooth movement
