Is there an orthodontist near Grand Bay-Westfield?
Yes, in uptown Saint John. Our clinic at 53 King Street serves families from Grand Bay-Westfield and across Greater Saint John.
It is the practice’s original home, at the corner of King Street and Germain Street, and it offers the full range of orthodontic treatment. Dr. MacKenzie is a specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. See our Saint John page.
Can we use your other clinics too?
Yes. All three of our clinics share one phone number, (506) 633-0555, and some families see us at more than one location, depending on their schedule.
Our Quispamsis clinic is at 120 Millennium Drive and our St. Stephen clinic at 141 King Street. Each offers braces, Invisalign, Angel Aligner and palatal expanders, and Dr. MacKenzie and the team offer free consultations at all three. See Locations.
Can I get Invisalign or clear aligners near Grand Bay-Westfield?
Yes. Our Saint John clinic offers Invisalign and Angel Aligner, and Dr. MacKenzie recommends the system that suits your teeth and your bite.
Treatment starts with a 3D scan instead of messy impressions, and you see a simulation of your planned result before you decide. You wear the aligners 22 hours a day and take them out to eat and to brush and floss, and most of our patients finish in 12 to 24 months. Read Invisalign and Clear Aligners.
My teeth have moved since I had braces. Can you help?
Yes. Smile Touch Up is our short clear aligner treatment for teeth that have shifted a little, and it usually takes 2 to 3 months when your bite is still healthy.
We also offer free retainer consultations, even if we were not your original orthodontist, so you can have an old retainer checked or replaced. A retainer that suddenly feels tight, or no longer fits, is often the first sign that teeth are moving. See Smile Touch Up and Retainers.
Can I get braces near Grand Bay-Westfield?
Yes. Every patient at our practice gets the option of braces or clear aligners, and braces and clear aligners cost the same here.
With braces you can choose silver with colours, clear ceramic or self-ligating, and we also offer 3D printed, fully customized brackets. Our Saint John clinic offers palatal expanders, Phase 1 treatment for children, Propel accelerated orthodontics, TMJ treatment and airway-focused orthodontics. See our Braces page.
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
By age 7, as the Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends. The first evaluation is always free.
At 7 your child has a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth and the jaw is still growing, so problems such as crowding or a crossbite can be seen early. Most children are simply monitored, with a check-up about once a year. If your child does need early treatment, it might mean a palatal expander or a space maintainer. If your child has a cleft, a craniofacial condition or another concern your doctor or dentist has raised, we are glad to see them well before age 7. See Treatment for Children (ages 6 to 10).
Do you treat teens and adults?
Yes. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment, provided your teeth and gums are healthy.
Teens in aligners usually have appointments 3 to 4 months apart, and teens in braces have adjustments 4 to 10 weeks apart. Remote monitoring lets us check progress between visits, so there is less time out of class or away from work. For adults who need comprehensive correction, Angel Aligner is typically our first recommendation. See Treatment for Teens and Treatment for Adults.
What is included in a free consultation?
Your free consultation includes a clinical exam, digital x-rays, clinical photos, a 3D intraoral scan and a personalized smile simulation. There is no cost and no obligation.
You meet Dr. MacKenzie in person, and our Treatment Coordinator walks you through your options, the cost and your insurance. Your smile simulation gives you a preview of your result before treatment begins. Most consultations take about 40 minutes. For a child’s consultation, both parents should ideally be there. Read Your First Visit.
How can I pay for orthodontic treatment?
We offer 0% interest monthly payment plans, and we direct bill most major insurance providers.
Monthly payments can be made by automatic debit. We also offer pay-in-full discounts, credit card payment plans and low or no down payment options, and there is no tax on our payments. See Cost, Insurance, and Financing and Orthodontic Insurance.
